Abstract
This article delves into the nexus between language and politics in the modern era, focusing on the linguistic discourse within the Persian constitution of 1906. The core contention of the article is that the politicization of language, facilitated by industrialization, underpins the political readings and inverted interpretations of language’s role in the modern era. Through analyzing the Iranian Constitution of 1906 alongside related documents, laws, and enactments of the Constitutional Assembly, we illustrate that the deliberate silence surrounding language within the 1906 constitution and among its authors signifies a conscious cultural stance. They regarded Persian as the natural medium and common language among all Iranian, representing both the scientific language and a shared national heritage.
